Make-A-Wish Volunteer Opportunities in Jacksonville

Looking for a way to give back?

Here are six Make-A-Wish volunteer opportunities to help you get connected.

At Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida, our mission is to grant life-changing wishes to critically ill children. And at every step of the way—from discovering the wish to seeing it come true—it’s our amazing volunteers who help make it all possible.

As one of Jacksonville’s best charities for children, Make-A-Wish is always looking for dedicated and passionate individuals to help us fulfill our mission.

Here is a list of six Make-A-Wish volunteer opportunities in Jacksonville to help you give back to deserving kids in your community.

1. Welcome Calls

For our amazing Wish Kids, there are few moments that can top receiving the news that their wish is about to be granted. As a Welcome Call Volunteer, you can be the privileged individual to share this wonderful news!

If bringing joy to someone’s day is something you love doing, this volunteering opportunity could be the perfect fit for you.

2. Wish Discovery

It might sound simple, but guiding a child toward the right wish is one of the most important steps in the wish fulfillment process.

As a Wish Granter/Discovery Volunteer, you get to play a hands-on role in that decision!

This volunteer opportunity takes place completely virtually, so there are no geographical restrictions. We also provide plenty of training (also virtually) to ensure that you are ready for your new role.

Wish Discovery is simple: after choosing a child from our online portal, you attend a one-time meeting with them to learn more about their likes and dislikes, favorite hobbies and activities, and any medical restrictions.

Using this information, you help the child pick three potential wishes and complete the paperwork to start the process of bringing their dream to life.

3. Wish Enhancement

For a more “hands on” Make-A-Wish volunteer opportunity, consider becoming a Wish Granter/Enhancement Volunteer.

In this role, you’ll be planning the party to reveal which wish will be granted, curating a special day that is centered around the Wish Kid.

After the reveal, you’ll also play a role in their Wish Experience!

Because each Wish Experience is different, this is a unique role with plenty of opportunities.

4. Event Volunteer

Fundraising events play a vital role in keeping Make-A-Wish running smoothly, and to help the events run smoothly, we benefit from Event Volunteers.

Whether it’s setting up tables at the Walk For Wishes, answering phones during Wish-A-Thon, or ensuring that The Wishmaker’s Ball goes off without a hitch, our Event Volunteers are instrumental in helping us reach our goals.

5. Skill Sharing

With such a wide variety of Wish types, Skill-Based Volunteers are always in need! At Make-A-Wish, you can put your professional experience toward a good cause by donating your time, skills, and knowledge.

Whether your expertise lies in writing, graphic design, photography, landscaping, carpentry, or another area, you’ll be directly involved in granting wishes to critically ill children in your community.

6. Office Volunteer

If you’re the type of person who shines behind the scenes, consider helping out as an Office Volunteer.

Help with a wide range of administrative tasks, from filing and filling out paperwork, to making phone calls and writing notes to our Wish Families.

You Can Make a Difference!

As a Make-A-Wish volunteer, you can help us fulfill our mission of granting life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses. But these volunteer opportunities don’t just benefit the community.

When you volunteer with Make-A-Wish, you’ll have the chance to meet new people, learn something new, or even hone your skills—all while giving back.
